Delta Electricity’s Western Region operations encompass Mount Piper and Wallerawang Power Stations in the Lithgow area.
Our immediate neighbours include the people of Wallerawang, Lidsdale, Cullen Bullen, Portland and surrounds.
From time to time, we conduct surveys of the general community or hold a forum of community stakeholders to hear first hand of their point of view and interest in our operations. Information is regularly provided to the local media and Delta staff participate in a range of local committees and meetings.
Through our sponsorship and donation program we support many community activities in the region. These include environmental projects through Landcare groups, support for children and young people, sporting, arts and music organisations, Tidy Towns committees and community events such as Celebrate Lithgow and Australia Day.
Delta e-schools has provided an opportunity to gain support for environmental education in all primary schools in the region - see School Projects- and will be re-introduced in 2008. A tertiary education scholarship to Charles Sturt University is awarded annually.
Each month, the Energy Expo at Mt Piper provides guided tours to many schools and social clubs with picnic and barbeque facilities available at the site.
Lake Lyell, Lake Wallace and Thompson’s Creek Dam were built to supply water for the power stations and these have become popular community facilities offering swimming, fishing, camping and boating opportunities. When water levels drop below a certain trigger point, due to drought, Lithgow Council closes Lake Lyell to power boating.
Thanks to rain since June 2007, Lake Lyell is currently open.
