As at 15 August 2008
Mount Piper and Wallerawang Power Stations draw their water supplies from storages on the Coxs River and the Oberon Dam.
During 2006 and the early part of 2007 there was very little inflow to these storages and Delta's water allocations were reduced.
Significant rainfall occurred in the region during June and July 2007 but unfortunately follow-up falls continue to be inconsistent.
Since that time Delta’s Coxs River storages have remained relatively steady between 40-45% of capacity, while the Oberon storage has continued to decline.
Oberon is presently around 15.5% of capacity and is approaching a trigger point when further reductions in allocated supply from this source can be expected.
The Oberon Dam provides up to one third of Delta's total water requirements and Oberon Dam water assists in the management of water salinity.
While water supplies have improved somewhat from the very low levels experienced early in 2007, further substantial rainfall is required, particularly in the Oberon Dam catchment, before water allocations can be restored to pre drought levels.
Delta has recently taken the decision to install additional Reverse Osmosis capacity at the Mt Piper power station. This action will allow the power stations to adequately cope with potential increases in water salinity arising from the drought.
We will continue to closely monitor water supplies and will issue further updates as the situation warrants.
