Energy Expo at Mount Piper Power Station - hours of operation
The Energy Expo at Mount Piper Power Station is open to visitors every day of the year from 9am to 4pm. It contains displays, models, exhibits, printed and photographic information, touch screens and videos to give the visitor all the information on how electricity is produced and distributed.
Although dealing mainly with coal-fired thermal power stations such as Delta’s Mt Piper and Wallerawang power stations, there is also information on renewable energy sources and developments. The facility includes picnic areas, electric barbeques, a children’s playground and toilets.
Visits to the Energy Expo and tours of the power station are free of charge.
Power Station Tours - organising a visit and tour
Tours of the Mt Piper power station itself are held daily at 11am. Note that on occasion, casual visitors will need to fit in with school or other pre-booked groups.
Group bookings can be made by calling, Julie Merrick, Community Relations Officer on 02-6354 8155 or fax 02-6354 8113. Confirmation of the group booking will be sent to you in writing. Groups should allow two hours for a comprehensive tour.
Suitable clothing
Note that people touring the plant are not allowed to take photographs, or to carry cameras or bags.
All visitors going on the tour must have enclosed solid shoes (no open shoes such as thongs or sandals), and wear long sleeved shirts and covered legs eg. trousers or slacks not skirts or shorts.
The weather can be very cold, so dress warmly in winter. Visitors will also be required to wear helmets, safety glasses and ear protection as supplied.
