Cobbora joint venture

On May 15, 2009 the Minister for Mineral Resources,  Ian Macdonald announced he had invited the NSW State owned power generators, Delta Electricity, Eraring Energy and Macquarie Generation, to apply for a coal exploration licence in the Dunedoo area.

The Department of Primary Industries has been undertaking coal exploration as part of its current Western Coalfield Exploration Project.  It has identified the Cobbora area, near Dunedoo in the State’s Central West,  as containing substantial coal resources suitable for domestic power generation.

The application for an exploration licence will be made in the names of  joint venture companies established for this project: Midwest Development Corporation Pty Ltd, Midwest Primary Pty Ltd and Rocky Point Holdings Pty Ltd.

Any future mine development would involve a full independent geological, commercial and environmental assessment over a number of years. Community consultation would be a significant part of the development approval process, should the project proceed in the future.

The NSW generators Delta Electricity, Eraring Energy and Macquarie Generation produce over 90% of the electricity used by the people of NSW.
