In 2002, approval was granted to use the Kerosene Vale Ash Repository area for ash storage. Since that time, the site has been used to store dry conditioned ash from the Wallerawang Power Station.
The original storage facility was designed to operate for a period of five years in a limited area over the Kerosene Vale Ash Repository. The storage area now needs to be expanded.
Planning Approval The proposed Stage 2 activities are being assessed under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and require approval from the Department of Planning.
Community Consultation As part of the environmental assessment process local residents, landowners and project stakeholders were invited to provide comments and feedback on the proposal. Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) consulted with the community in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
Environmental Assessment As required, a preliminary environmental review was completed. Based on this preliminary assessment the Department of Planning outlined their requirements for the Environmental Assessment. (see below) Work was carried out to assess potential impacts on surface and groundwater quality and hydrology, aquatic ecology, air quality and noise.
