Delta Electricity is an electricity generation company formed on 1st March, 1996, as part of the New South Wales Government’s restructure of the State’s electricity industry.
We currently produce electricity from several facilities using diverse fuels such as coal, water and biomass materials and have several gas turbine facilities under development.
Our generators produce around 12% of the electricity needed by consumers in South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT.
Most of Delta’s generation occurs at four power stations located in NSW. These are Mt Piper and Wallerawang near Lithgow, and Vales Point and Munmorah on the Central Coast. These stations have a combined generating capacity of 4,320 megawatts.
We are also constructing a 667MW gas turbine power station at Colongra on the Central Coast which will provide power at times of peak demand.
Development applications for two other gas turbine power stations are being finalised for sites - one at Marulan, near Goulbourn and another at Bamarang near Nowra.
Australia's largest renewable baseload energy project, the construction of two 30MW co-generation facilities at the sugar mills in Condong and in Broadwater is reaching completion. This has been a joint venture between Delta Electricity and the NSW Sugar Milling Co-operative known as Sunshine Electricity.
Small amounts of renewable energy are also produced from mini-hydro facilities located at Mt Piper near Lithgow and Chichester Dam in the upper Hunter Valley.

Delta Electricity operates under the Energy Services Corporations Act (1995) and the State Owned Corporations Act (1989). Since it was formed, Delta Electricity has operated mainly in the wholesale electricity market selling to energy retailers and in some cases a few very large industrial customers.
Delta is recognised nationally as supplying electricity safely, efficiently and at a competitive price, and its environment management procedures are in line with environmental best practice. |
