Delta’s approach to the training of apprentices has been, since 1997, to sponsor a number of apprentice opportunities through two Group Training companies – most recently Hunter Group Training/East Coast Training on the NSW Central Coast and Central West Group Apprentices in the Western region. These groups coordinate apprentices through the period of their industrial experience and oversee all necessary functions associated with the scheme.
Delta funds the basic skills training and wages for ten to twelve apprentices in their first year in each of the Western and Central Coast regions. Delta also provides industrial experience opportunities in subsequent years for some of the apprentices in each region in order to help them fulfil the industrial experience requirements for their trade.
Delta’s sponsorship of apprentices provides an opportunity for people to acquire valuable and much needed work skills. This arrangement also gives apprentices the chance to come back to Delta when job vacancies become available.
These arrangements are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that they remain appropriate.
