Mt Piper

Mt Piper Power station is in the Central West region of New South Wales. It is located near the highway to Mudgee 25 km west of Lithgow, and 5 km east of Portland. It was commissioned in the early 1990's.

The power station operates in a scenic mountain area. Wool, forestry and coal mining are the other major local industries. Mt Piper staff benefit from proximity to Lithgow, Bathurst and Mudgee which offer many amenities and services.

The existing Mt Piper Power station was commissioned in two stages over 1992 and 1993, and now comprises two 700 MW coal-fired steam turbine generators (Units 1 and 2). Four generators were originally intended to be constructed on the site, but the third and fourth units were not built due to a fall-off in energy and demand growth in the 1980s.
