Licences and compliance

All Delta Electricity facilities are located in New South Wales and are subject to the environmental protection legislation of this State. Each power station holds licences under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

The licences specify the terms and conditions under which each site can operate detailing the limits on emissions deemed polluting to the atmosphere and to lakes and rivers for all designated discharge points at each power station.   The license also outlines a monitoring regime for specific substances from each discharge point.  It deems noise and odour as pollutants, and Delta is required to keep a register of any complaint relating to noise, dust, odour or discharges into water.

The current licences for all sites are displayed in the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water Licence Register

Reporting compliance

Environmental officers are charged with implementing and reporting on the results of Delta’s monitoring programs, many of which are more diligent than required by the licence conditions.  This enables more effective environmental management.   Last year, Delta retained its compliance with the International Standard ISO 14001 which assures best practice processes in environmental compliance.

Environmental officers also investigate any complaint in order to clarify if Delta’s operations are responsible and if so, how to modify our operations to reduce any impacts.

Every year, a report which outlines the results of the monitoring programs for all the licences is submitted to the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water.  If there is measure that is outside the limits set in the licence this is reported with detail about how a recurrence will be prevented. All complaints received during the year are also reported.
